With Jared Leto, "Tron 3" may finally materialise

It's been nearly a decade since Tron: Legacy was released, and those hoping for a third instalment in the famous sci-fi series may have wished for it on a monkey's paw. Tron: Ares, as the picture is said to be named, might begin production this August, with Jared Leto, aka Morbius, scheduled to feature. According to Deadline, Joachim Rnning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) is in discussions to direct.

According to Variety, Leto originally signed on in 2017, although Disney has been planning a third film for quite some time. In an interview, Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski (who later directed Top Gun: Maverick) said that he created and storyboarded a sequel "that takes place on the internet with Yahoo and Google and all those sites." Kosinski said that he was close to pushing ahead in 2015, but that Disney "pulled the plug" because it needed to concentrate on Marvel and Star Wars.

Tron: Ares may finally be a reality this time. Unfortunately, it seems Daft Punk will not be returning to give another banger of a soundtrack. The renowned pair divorced in 2021.
