David Dastmalchian launches Genre production company

David Dastmalchian has become a familiar and adored component of the genre space, from The Suicide Squad to Ant-Man to The Flash to Dune. According to a recent rumour, he's set to lead even more of them in an entirely different manner. Dastmalchian announced on Thursday the formation of Good Fiend Films, a new production business focusing on character-driven projects in horror, sci-fi, and fantasy for cinema, television, audio, and publishing. The label aspires to produce character-driven projects in horror, science fiction, and fantasy for cinema, television, audio, and publication. Its first project will be the forthcoming horror thriller Late Night with the Devil, which stars Dastmalchian as Jack Delroy, a 1970s talk show presenter.

"It's an exciting moment for higher genres," Dastmalchian said in a statement. "I've had the wonderful fortune to work with some of the finest brains in entertainment, and I've learned so much about myself and the art of storytelling as a result. I'm pleased to be running Good Fiend Films at this time in my path of mental health and drug recovery, as we deal with serious themes via the entertaining prism of science fiction, horror, and superhero storytelling."

Dastmalchian, who won fans over as DC's Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad in recent years, recently told ComicBook.com that he was unsure whether he would be able to return for the next Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. According to the film's most current press release, Dastmalchian will return — but as the voice of a new character called Veb, rather than his prior role of Kurt.

"Well, sadly, in Ant-universe... Man's I honestly don't know where I'm heading next," Dastmalchian stated at the time. "Right now, I'm working on an R... The Last Voyage of the Demeter is an R-rated film, but coming from Ant-Man, a very fun family-friendly PG film, to The Suicide Squad, the one negative... I mean, it's fantastic that James [Gunn] could go as crazy as he wanted with the violence and the profanity and all of the humour. But the terrible part is that I have two kids in my home who are ecstatic about a movie that they won't be able to watch for another six or seven years, and they have no idea. This is weeks away for them. 'Dads Polka-Dot Man, we're going to watch the movie,' for example. They have no idea since they have not seen the film."
