The Showrunner of The Witcher Finally Addresses Henry Cavill's Departure

The Witcher, a Netflix original series, is struggling after it was reported that series star Henry Cavill will be leaving the role of Geralt. Lauren S. Hissrich, showrunner, wants viewers to know they understand what it means.

Hissrich has been especially transparent about where the show is heading or what motivates some of the creative choices and modifications behind this adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's books since the streaming giant initially unveiled The Witcher. While The Witcher fanbase and Hissrich haven't always agreed on everything, she's always handled criticism with a grain of salt, even conducting AMA sessions on Twitter from time to time.

Hissrich now wants to take a step back and encourage those same people to "Please return for The Witcher season three so that we can keep doing this." Cavill's loss is "a major blow for us, too," she told TechRadar." She specifically said that "there's a lot of debate and speculations around, and we totally understand why people are going there." Nonetheless, Hissrich did not elaborate, choosing to focus on the imminent release of The Witcher: Blood Origin prequel, which will be available around the holidays.

Hissrich agrees that Cavill's absence from The Witcher from season 4 onwards is "big news."" For the time being, she preferred to concentrate on The Witcher prequel. "This must remain focused on Blood Origin, Declan [de Barra], the actors, and the crew. "This is their turn in the limelight," she remarked, ignoring the large White Wolf in the room that the main show must deal with. Hissrich is acknowledged as a co-creator as well as an executive producer. She also played the latter in the animated film Nightmare of the Wolf.

Nightmare of the Wolf was another piece of original Witcher content released by Netflix, however, it was written by Beau DeMayo, who departed the series as one of the most outspoken critics of the creative process, claiming that many of The Witcher authors openly insult Sapkowski's source material. Those remarks struck a chord with Witcher fans, who cited Cavill's views about keeping true to the books as his key desire for the series to continue, with a fan petition to dismiss The Witchers showrunners and keep Cavill going viral online.

Overall, Hissrich knows that The Witcher has a Henry Cavill-shaped issue, but rather than focusing on that or his successor, Liam Hemsworth, she'd rather concentrate on Blood Origin for the time being. Viewers will likely never know whether it was artistic disagreements, Superman, or a combination of the two that drove Cavill to call it quits, thus Hissrich may be correct in wanting to keep the Witcher franchise alive.
