The stunning 'The Last of Us' trailer highlights Joel and Ellie's relationship

If the wait for HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us wasn't already long enough, the network has released a new teaser for the forthcoming series ahead of its January 15th premiere date. The almost two-and-a-half-minute clip provides our finest look yet at the Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) production. And for those who were concerned that the series would be too similar to Naughty Dog's original material, it demonstrates that the adaptation's writers weren't hesitant to do something fresh with the property.

This is shown early on in the film when Ellie pretends to be a clicker. The following dialogue is one of the trailer's few lighthearted moments. Later in the video, fans will see Ashley Johnson, the actress who played Ellie in the video games.

If you're new to The Last of Us, the trailer provides a good synopsis of the plot from the original game. Joel and Ellie, who will be portrayed by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the forthcoming HBO series, are at the core of the story. Joel must accompany Ellie through a post-apocalyptic version of the United States in the hopes that she will be the key to saving what remains of the world's inhabitants from a fungal virus that transforms its victims into violent, zombie-like monsters known as the Infected.

HBO's marketing materials for The Last of Us make it plain that the network has great aspirations for the series. HBO released a sizzle trailer earlier this year to promote their 2023 slate, which included footage from the programme.
