The fan-favourite third season of The Mandalorian continues Star Wars' recent popularity on television. Today during CCXP, an event where Lucasfilm showed some of its next projects, including Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Disney chose to dump a new picture and a release date on fans.
The Mandalorian, a Jon Favreau TV concept that captivated the globe when it debuted in 2019, proved to be the ideal remedy to the pandemic blues everyone was experiencing at the time. It looked and felt like big-screen Star Wars, and its characters, especially the Mandalorian himself, portrayed by Pedro Pascal, and the newborn member of Yoda's race now known to fans as Grogu, were immediately recognisable. They are returning to Disney Plus on March 1st, after two seasons.
Fans who share Werner Herzog's desire to "see the baby" will be rewarded with a high-resolution image of him and his father figure, Mando, sitting in the cockpit of the new N-1 Starfighter that Din Djarin received to take on his bounty-hunting duties after his original ship, the Razor Crest, was destroyed by Moff Gideon near the end of season 2. The Mandalorian reconnected with Mos Eisley junkyard owner Peli Motto (Amy Sedaris) in The Book of Boba Fett, who revealed that she had a Naboo starfighter. Mando will need it when he returns to Mandalore for the battle of his life, as the series has built up a slowly developing Mandalorian civil war for possession of the Dark Saber, which means control of the whole planet, commanded by Katie Sackhoff's Bo-Katan Kryze.
Rumours have also circulated that Moff Gideon, the man who last wielded the Dark Saber before the Mandalorian snatched it from him with a Beskar spear, is returning in his own Mandalorian armour, revealing that the former Imperial officer may have a more complicated backstory than fans initially believed. This explains why the Empire has been desiring Grogu and his high midichlorian-count blood. Whatever the case, the narrative is guaranteed to intrigue when The Mandalorian's third season premieres next year.
