The Flash's release date is pushed back to avoid a clash with Indiana Jones

Warner Bros. Discovery and DC's new management want to make sure everything under their control goes well when The Flash makes his solo debut, which seems to include bumping forward the film's release date a few days to avoid conflicting with another blockbuster behemoth, Indiana Jones.

While Warner has been tight-lipped about promoting The Flash, owing to its actor Ezra Miller's involvement in a slew of controversies over the last two years, it's about time promotional efforts ramp up, with the film taking over DC's stand at CCXP. Nonetheless, the prior release date of June 23, 2023, is no longer valid, since Disney will now release Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny only one week later.

With that in mind, Warner bosses have opted to give Barry Allen some additional breathing space, as Variety says the picture has been pushed out one week to June 16, 2023, so it may compete for the summer box office Indy-free for a longer period of time. Overall, DC Universe films have shifted their release dates quite a bit in the last year, whether it was Black Adam's original VFX-related delays or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom changing places with Shazam! Fury of the Gods, with the latter currently scheduled for March 17, 2023.

In any event, The Flash is expected to be DC's big tentpole feature, which is why it's critical for the studio to secure that two-week window when most movies generate the majority of their box office revenues. Financial performance is likely to be an important statistic, given that Black Adam is predicted to cause losses for Warner after just $384.6 in income from movie theatres globally.

The Flash's management has been a particular concern for Warner in recent months, with the prospect of cancelling the picture entirely, similar to Batgirl, being considered at one time if not for the project's large $200 million budget. Regardless, The Flash has allegedly done well with test screening crowds, which bodes well for such a major movie, as opposed to Black Adam, which failed to establish consensus among reviewers and fans on how wonderful it was.

The Flash is set to tackle the Flashpoint plot from the comics, providing it with the ideal chance for DC to relaunch under the creative guidance of James Gunn.
