Riverdale's Star Reveals Grounded and Strange Final Season

Riverdale will return for its seventh season in 2023 — The CW has not yet revealed the series' return date — and its return will mark the end of an era. While Riverdale is well-known for its insane plot twists and strange events, series actress Madelaine Petsch is previewing a final adventure that is more centred on its relationship, but still has "some odd things occurring."

"Yes. But I wouldn't say much this season "When asked whether she'd ever read a Riverdale screenplay, Petsch told that she questioned if they could be wilder. "There is one important event in my family's life that is both strange and fantastic. Aside from that, this season is really grounded and relationship-centred. You're really grasping what made Season 1 so wonderful, which was the town's connections. This season's madness is less pronounced, yet strange occurrences continue to occur."

Riverdale was reset to the 1950s in the Season 6 finale following an encounter with an apocalyptic comet. It was a stunning change, which showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has already acknowledged.

"At different moments during the season, we discussed what our last season might be, and certain individuals were quite nostalgic about when the kids were in high school," Aguirre-Sacasa previously remarked of the 1950s twist.

"'Man, remember when we were in high school and I was on the football team?' asked KJ Apa at some point. And Mark Pedowitz from the CW was talking to Jon Goldwater and said something like, "Oh remember when the kids were in high school?" We discussed it in the room, and we wondered if we could go back in time and put everyone back in high school. But we've already done it. They had been in high school for at least four years. It'd feel like a rerun. So we were in a pickle."
